1. Vince Carter Dunks on Frédéric Weis
This is often hailed as the best dunk of all time. It was the 2000 Olympics and Vince Sanity and the Americans were going off against the French side. Frédéric Weis is a great French player who is 7 ft. 2 inches tall. On this specific play Carter runs in and takes the ball then he vaults totally over Weis and throws down with one-hand. His hang time is unrivalled as he fly’s through the air. It almost looks to be in slow motion and his head is at the rim when he dunks. Trust me the video explains it all.
2. Michael Jordan Dunks on Patrick Ewing
Many would say that this is the most renowned and incredible dunk in the legendary career of Michael Air Jordan. It was game 3 of the first round in the 1991 NBA Playoffs. The Bulls won the match and ultimately swept the Knicks in this series. Chicago went on to claim their first ever NBA championship after being a part of the league for 25-years. This whole play is completely mind-boggling. He shakes Starks with a spectacular move, drives the lane, and posterizes Ewing. He reaches heights of incredible magnitude. You keep expecting for him to come down, but he never stops ascending. He simply continues to soar nearly reaching for the skies and then tosses it down with one hand.
3. Dominique Wilkins Dunks All Over Everyone
Dominique could be the finest dunker ever to play the game of basketball. He reached his actual heyday in the 1980’s and was a human highlight reel. We all know his numerous bouts with Jordan in slam dunk competitions during this period, but he also posterized several notable athletes. I was not able to locate a solid video of one single dunk by Dominique, but rather a compilation of various incredible slams. When this man went to the rim there was nothing that could stop him. He had the elevation, but is most commonly recognised for his actual might. If you attempted to stop his shot then he would go past you or adapt and do something magnificent. It was almost poetic seeing Dominique Wilkins perform.
4. Julius Erving Dunks on Michael Cooper
Dr. J was one of the first professional basketball superstars to play above the rim. His jumping skill was incredible as he defied gravity. He blocked 1941 shots in 15 NBA seasons. His dunk on Michael Cooper is one of the most legendary in the history of the game. It occurred in a January 5, 1983 regular season game between the Sixers and the Lakers. The dunk occurred in the waning minutes of the game and served to lead Philadelphia to a two-point triumph. Erving snatches the ball and then in a smooth move sprints to the basket and posterized Cooper. It is funny as Cooper jumps he realizes that he has no chance of blocking Erving, so he just gets out of the way. I can watch this dunk over and again and it never gets old.
