Star Performances
Ajay Devgn takes on the role of Georgekutty, the character originally played by Mohanlal in the first film, and does a commendable job. His ability to convey emotion through his eyes is a standout quality, and he manages to capture the sense of helplessness that his character experiences throughout the film. However, his performance is not as intense as that of Mohanlal in the original.
CHARACTERS
Shriya Saran the character of Nandini, and while she doesn't overdo it, her character's actions and decisions weaken both the story and the film. Akshaye Khanna, as Tarun, fails to live up to the expectations set by Murali Gopy's portrayal of Thomas in the first film. His performance in this film is not as impressive as his role in Ittefaq. Tabu, as Meera Deshmukh, does well in her limited screen time, but certain choices for her character make her feel distant from the audience compared to her portrayal in the first film.
Ishita Dutta as Anju lacks the emotional depth and impact of Ansiba's portrayal of the character in the first film, and Mrunal Jadhav fails to add anything substantial to the narrative. Saurabh Shukla and Rajat Kapoor deliver decent performances in their roles.
Direction and Music
Director Abhishek Pathak does a good job of adapting the original film, but the added elements do not work in favor of the film and distract from the main story. The music, composed by DSP and Amitabh Bhattacharya, is decent but fails to match the intensity of "Dum Ghutta Hai" from the first film.
Conclusion:
Overall, Drishyam 2 is a decent sequel to the popular 2021 film, Drishyam. While it benefits from the strengths of the original, it is brought down by the forced inclusion of certain characters and the lack of intrigue surrounding the side characters. Ajay Devgn's performance as Vijay Salgaonkar is a highlight, as is the continuation of the narrative from the first film. The cinematography is also polished, but these strengths are not enough to make up for.
